Oak Bay Moving Forward

Discover the core pillars of my campaign and how I plan to bring positive change to our community.

Leadership that listens

What I deeply value is building long-lasting relationships and trust, both individually and collectively.

I am deeply embedded in the community as a High School Teacher and Counsellor at Oak Bay High, a Bays United Soccer Coach, and a coach of soccer and rugby at the high school.

Inclusivity and strong communication are imperative in our decision-making processes.

I will bring these skills to Council and  help our community move forward through a more collaborative, team-oriented approach that ensures that decision-making systems and processes work better for Oak Bay residents.

Every Oak Bay resident's voice matters!

Thoughtful growth for a vibrant community

How our community continues to be built out is extremely important to me, and our Official Community Plan is our guide.  The OCP, resulting from  a year of community input and engagement clearly outlines the direction on this challenge:

  • Increase and diversify housing options that are affordable so younger people can move to Oak Bay and seniors can age in place.
  • Support infill-style development, building appropriately based on proximity to main transit routes  and the university, and in neighbourhoods where laneway housing and secondary suites fit.

As a member of Council, I will work with other leaders in our community to ensure that the OCP (an exceptionally clear document) guides our path forward.  Growth must occur without sacrificing our Garry oak ecosystems and important tree canopy.

Fiscal prudence

Careful budgeting and fiscal management are vital to a thriving community. Ensuring our municipal finances and budgets are managed prudently and transparently is extremely important to me.

Project investments should reflect the needs and wishes of the community.

Carnarvon Park is a crown jewel in our community, but has been treated over time with financial band aids that really haven't enhanced the park. Those investments could have been better made on actually implementing and completing a comprehensive rebuild.

Generations of kids have missed out on recreational opportunities because of Oak Bay's lack of investment in youth.

Your tax dollars should not be go towards unnecessarily expensive consultants.

Infrastructure projects need attention, but these decisions  made must be made with care and appropriate prioritization.

Healthy and realistic budgetary goals, along with careful consideration of how much we pay for services (for example, consultant services), deserve more attention.

Council must keep tax increases to a minimum-remembering always  that these are your tax dollars.
